I want to purchase an extended warranty for some repairs I need to make on my car. How long do I have to wait after purchasing the warranty to make the repairs so they will cover them instead of rejecting them for being pre-existing?

My in-laws just bought a new Toyota and opted not to buy the extended warranty at this time.
The guy said they could purchase the Toyota extended warranty any time for the same price as long as it was during the existing warranty period. Is this correct?

I have been getting quotes on an extended warranty for my 2001 Nissan Maxima with over 100000 miles. The company I was looking at is "Auto Service Warranty Inc." . Has anyone had experience with this type of warranty or this company? Is this a good idea? The coverage is pretty comprehensive and cost 00 for an additional 60000 miles.
