Is it worth buying the extended warranty on a used car?

I am getting ready to purchase a 2006 Audi A4 with about 45,000 miles on it. The car is in super great condition. They are offering me an extended, aftermarket warranty that covers any problems with the car for the next three years for only 1750 extra. Its just a little over 500 a year for full coverage for the next three years. Is this worth it or should I just deal with problems on an as needed basis?

By the way, the car is from a reputable dealer so I am not worried about it being a complete dud, but you cant ever foresee all problems of course.

I bought a 2004 Honda CRV-EX in Feb 2006. With the purchase of my car i got an extended warranty. Now my car has broken down and thought my warranty was still good since my 7 yrs or my 100,000 miles didn’t pass yet. Took it to the dealership i bought it from. They said i had bad gas which they fixed but when they restarted my car a # 3 piston made contact with my spark plug which then messed up my timing and now need a new engine.Because it was bad gas that messed up my engine they say the warranty doesn’t cover it. They gave me the bad gas which when i gave it to another mechanic he took a match to it and it caught fire meaning it wasn’t bad gas in the first place. Also said that a piston could never come in contact with a spark plug. Is that considered breach or warranty and can i have this dealership pay to fix my car.

Extended auto warranties, like many warranty products, are used by people who don’t want to get caught out by expensive repair bills just when they can least afford it. I have an 06 Xterra with 45,000 miles on it and just had to have the mass air flor sensor replace, which was a 420 dollar repair. The dealership said the warranty for it only went to 36,000 miles so I contacted Nissan customer service and complained about how I had to pay for this part, which should hold up for much longer than 45,000 miles. They sent my compaint to a warranty specialist who is going to call me back. I am wondering if throwing a big enough fit over the phone will make them side with me and possible pick up at least some, if not all of the repair costs. I know with other companies when you complain enough they usually give in to keep you as a customer, but wonder if this is the same with a car company. Thank you for your help!
