Is Pep boys and expensive store to get my car repairs? compared to taking it to a family owned mechanic store?
Pep boys estimating me 700-600$ to put on rear drums and replace brakes on my 95 chevy blazer 4×4.
Should i just buy the drums and brakes from auto zone and take it to some other mechanic ?? Is pep boys known to be expensive??
Typo’d "an" where it says and on the question.. oops.
The 700 estimate was for the rear drums, front pads, and to stop a leak in the brake line, also to put in a sway bar bushing on upper control . He wrote me an diagnostics( cost over 100$ for it) that i can not even read half of it because of the horrible hand writing, i dont know what i need to buy to fix it cuz i cant read the danm handwriting, now i got to go again to pep boys in the morning to check it out what he wrote me, god help them if they try to charge me to write out another diagnostics!

Lets see autozone price list.
Brake shoes 19.99
Brake Drum 34.00 x 2= 68.00
Front brake pads 38.00
Sway bar busing 14.00
About 140.00 in parts from what you listed
Is the brake line leaking from a fitting or the line it self?
pep boys $700-600 ouch thank goodness I learned do my own work.
I would call around different shops and ask them what they charge for a front and rear brake job. Or ask family member or friend for help or even auto zone in the right direction of how to do them your self they aren’t that difficult to do as long as you have the right tools.
personally i dont trust pep-boys work , i would go to a private garage . but most private garage will not allow you to bring your own parts and have them install them
I dont like to take my car there, some things they do are cheap, some things are over priced. My entire family takes our cars to the same guy, hes been doing it for 35 years, compared to most of the guys at pep boys who are 18-24 years old. Not saying they arent good mechanics, just not the experience I want working on my ride.
PepBoys aren’t mechanics. They are a parts store that has guys that think they are mechanics. You can’t take parts into a shop and expect them to install them. That is like taking a steak into a restaurant and wanting them to cook it for you. Go to a real brake shop and get an estimate.
holy crap, 700, fu – ck that, go to a shop, a job like that is about 200-300 tops, wow, pep boys is gay,
no pepboys will rip you off
$700 sounds high just to do rear drum brakes…….or is that for the front ones too? the question was kind of un clear
In Pep boys there are many rookies in there, and obviously you don’t want them working on your car right? Then get a real mechanic to fix that up.
It’s a gamble, it’s like taking your own steaks into a steak place and asking them to cook it for you because you dont want to buy the steak from them. Or taking your own rolls and ground beef into burger king and asking them to cook it for you.
