What does bumper-to-bumper auto extended warranty actually cover?

I have a copy of the service contract (my car is 49,000 mi), and it states what it does not cover. Is it worth buying?

Howdy,
This is one of those "well, it all depends" type questions. However, there are some basic things all "bumper to bumper" warranties should include.
Bankrate.com has an article on this very topic and notes "the warranty generally covers any part on the car not covered by a different manufacturer’s warranty, such as the tires and the battery."
It’s important to note that many manufacturers advertise "power-train warranties" that last as long as 100,000 miles. These are very different, and less inclusive, than "bumper-to-bumper."
For more details, ask your dealer for specifics, and, of course, get everything in writing.

I would check with the warranty company. There should be an 800# you can call. Every company has different coverage. I would not buy it from a car dealership. The mark up is outrageous!!
Check with the individual companies, compare coverage and prices before making a decision. Yes, I have seen where they do come in handy. But recommend you do your homework first.
Good luck and drive safely!
If it’s offered by the car manufacture usually it’s a pretty good deal. Beware of offers that come in the mail. I recently got an offer from an outfit that called itself TWD Inc. Turned out to be a cleverly disguised Duralube promotion which only covered a very few components. You gotta be careful.
It covers everything except that little front licence plate, because it is in front of the bumper.
Bumper to bumper coverage is for everything between the bumpers that is NOT routine scheduled maintenance (oil changes, brakes, tires, usually exhaust system from age).
Read the fine print though…
I wouldn’t buy another extended warranty tho unless it was from the auto company directly….6 months after I bought a car…the warranty company went belly up and I was SOL…but I ended up paying for that warranty every month in my payments…go figure.
